About Me

I have more than 1000 hours of formal training, in both basic massage and several advanced modalities.  Most of my bodywork training has been at the world famous Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, where Esalen® massage was developed.
My approach to body work reflects the benefits of training at Esalen -- I treat the whole person, not an isolated muscle group, pain location, or body part.  I draw on any or all of the various modalities in which I have been trained to treat each person as an individual, addressing what the client describes as his or her needs and what I find in the body .
I am certified in Zero Balancing® and a member of the Zero Balancing Association. All of my classes have been taught by Dr. Fritz Smith, the initial developer of Zero Balancing.
I was trained in Muscle Release Technique® by the developer of the technique, Michael Young, and I am part of his referral network for the Bay Area.  I have also trained with Aaron Mattes in The Mattes Method and Active Isolated Stretching.
In addition, I am a member of the Esalen Massage and Bodyworkers Association and  Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals.
As a complement to my sports therapy and chronic pain practices, I am also certified as a trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
Bodywork is my second career;  I am a retired executive from a Silicon Valley firm.  I live in Los Altos with my wife and son.
